Clerk / Treasurer's Office Responsibilities

The Clerk/Treasurer's office provides administrative assistance to the City Administrator, the Mayor and the Common Council. Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates staff and reviews progress as needed. Financial information to all of the various City divisions and departments. Responsible for the overall fiscal activities of the City's operations, which includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, investment of idle funds and budget preparation. The Accounting Department has been active in the process of acquiring short-term and long-term funding for the City operating and capital improvement projects through the securing of promissory note and bond issues.

Information for Candidates for Municipal Office

Prior to announcing your candidacy for office or circulating nomination papers, the candidate must file a Campaign Registration Statement in the City Clerk’s Office. The number of signatures required for Alderperson is not less than 20 nor more than 40. The number of signatures required for the position of Mayor is not less than 50 signatures nor more than 100. Tax Payment Information

City of Milton tax bills will be mailed by December 21st of this year. The first installment or the full payment is due by January 31st at Milton City Hall. City Hall is open Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Milton City Hall will be open Thursday, December 31st from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

The second installment is due July 31st. The second installment must be paid at the Rock County Treasurer's Office at the Courthouse, 51 S. Main Street Janesville.

You may obtain a tax receipt by visiting the Rock County Treasurer's office website. By entering your address or parcel number, you can view the assessed value and tax payment history for any property in Rock County.

Annual Financial Report

In May of every year the City is presented with an Annual Financial Report for the prior year. This report is completed by the City's independent auditing firm. Click here to view the financial reports available on-line. Remember, the most recent report may actually be for a year or two prior to the current year.

Dog & Cat Licenses

The 2012 dog and cate licenses are available at City Hall. Please remember to provide proof of current vaccinations for your dog and/or cat. All dogs and cats over the age of 6 months, are required to be licensed in the City of Milton. $8.00 for spayed and neutered and $15.00 for un-spayed or un-neutered. Proof of rabies must be presented when purchasing the license.

**Any License not obtained by April 1, 2012 will be charged a $10.00 late fee in addition to the license fee per animal.**

Operator License / Bartender License

In order to obtain an operator license in the City of Milton, you have to take the Responsible Beverage Server course. The course if offered online and at Blackhawk Technical College and Madison Area Technical College. Operator licenses are renewed annually at the cost of $30.00. The operator license is good for any liquor serving establishment in the City of Milton.

Business License

Businesses in the City of Milton are required to obtain a business license. Please stop in City Hall and inquire on the procedure. The fee is $25.00.

Description of Organization: The Office of the City Clerk- City of Milton, Wisconsin

Information may be obtained from the Records Custodian at the office of the City Clerk, 430 E. High St, Milton Wisconsin between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Records stored at the other location(s) will be available within 48 hours after a notice of intent to inspect or copy a record is made.
