You must be registered to vote in order to request an absentee ballot. 2010 Elections Spring Primary: February 16, 2010 Spring Election: April 6, 2010 Partisan Primary: September 14, 2010 General Election: November 2, 2010 Location and Hours of Polls CITY OF MILTON - All registered voters in the City of Milton vote in the Council Chambers in the lower level of the Shaw Municipal Center (City Hall), 430 E. High Street. Click here for a map/directions. Parking is located in both the front and back lots of the building. Handicap accessibility is available at either lot. For those requiring assistance on Election Day, please contact City Hall at 868-6900 and we will be happy to assist you. POLL HOURS - Polls are open on election day from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM. SURROUNDING TOWNSHIPS - If you live in one of the townships surrounding the City of Milton, such as the Township of Milton or Township of Harmony, you DO NOT vote at Milton City Hall. Questions about elections in the townships should be directed to the appropriate town clerk (see numbers below). Residents in the Township of Milton vote at Milton Town Hall located at 23 First Street (actually located within the City of Milton near the Kwik Trip - click here for map). Questions about voting in the Township of Milton should be directed to the Town Clerk at 868-2465. Residents in the Township of Harmony vote at Harmony Town Hall located at 440 E. US Hwy. 14 (on the east side of Janesville - click here for map). Questions about voting in the Township of Harmony should be directed to the Town Clerk at 868-6065. For information on polling locations across all of Rock County, click here. Voter Registration All Wisconsin voters are required to be registered. Registration can occur any day of the year at City Hall. By registering before Election Day, you will save time and your name will appear in the Election Poll books. City Hall is open Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and is located on the second floor of the Shaw Municipal Center. If you have any questions, please contact City staff at (608) 868-6900. Registrations forms are available here at City Hall after hours on the second floor landing, on the City website or the State of Wisconsin Government Accountability Board website. To register in the State of Wisconsin, voters are required to provide adequate proof of identification and residency. Accepted forms of identification include: drivers license, identification card, school identification, passport, utility bills, cellular phone bills, insurance documents, bank documents and/or statements, mortgage/lease documents or legal documents. Items not accepted as identification: magazines, checks, junk mail, credit card offers, etc. If you have questions on required identification, please contact City Hall (608) 868-6900 prior to date of registration. Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on election day may request to vote by absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen who will be 18 years of age or older on election day, who has resided in the City of Milton for at least ten (10) days prior to the election. The requesting voter must be a registered voter in the City of Milton to request an absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot, a written request must be received by the City Clerk’s office for the upcoming election. You can personally come to City Hall and complete a written application or download an application from the State of Wisconsin Government Accountability Board website and mail it in to City Hall. You can also mail a letter to City Hall that states your name, address, and where you want the ballot sent. If you choose to come personally to City Hall to submit your request, you will have the opportunity to vote absentee at that time. Ballots may not be taken home from City Hall, they can be voted at City Hall or they will be mailed to the address on the request. City of Milton residents over the age of 70 or permanently disabled may apply for permanent absentee voting status by contacting City Hall at 608-868-6900. The City of Milton is always looking for new pollworkers to help on election day. If you are interested in becoming a poll worker, call or stop by City Hall to put your name on the list. |
