Library / Getting a Library Card The Milton Public Library is located at 430 E. High St. on the Main Level (868-7462). Click here to view the Library's website. To get a library card, bring your driver's license or a piece of official mail with your current address. If you are age 16 or under, you need a parent or guardian to sign the form for you. Library cards are issued at no charge. The Milton Courier is a local weekly newspaper and serves as Milton's official newspaper. The best source for local jobs would be the area newspapers, including the Milton Courier and Janesville Gazette. Another resource would be the Rock County Job Center. The Rock County Job Center provides resources to assist the community in enhancing the quality of the workforce. A wide range of education, employment, training and supportive services are available at one convenient location. The Job Center is recognized by the United States Department of Labor as a "model" job center and has received recognition as the "#1 One Stop in the Nation". The Milton Post Office is located at 150 Hilltop Drive. PH: 868-7742 Public Access Television runs on Cable Channel 96 & 985. This channel includes rebroadcasts of City Council meeting, School District events, and school/municipal information. City meetings are also archived for on-line viewing at www.redhawkmedia.com/city. Recreation Programs The Rock County YMCA operates a youth softball and baseball program in the summers. Registration forms are generally available in March and April of each year at the Janesville YMCA, City Hall and at each of the local Schools. High Street Ste. 2, 868-9200 The City of Milton is served by the Milton Area School District (which also serves area townships and northern portions of the City of Janseville). The District's central office is located in the Shaw Municipal Building (430 E. High St.) on the same level as City Hall. Warning Siren System Several warning sirens are located around the City to alarm residents of emergencies and severe weather. There is no set day that these occur, however they generally take place at 12:05 PM. The sirens are operated by the Rock County Sheriff's Department. Prior to conducting a test, the Sheriff's Department issues a notification over the local radio stations and also informs local police departments. If there is a chance of severe weather in the area on a day that a test is scheduled, then the testing is cancelled for that particular day. Refuse and Recycling Collection Refuse and recycling is collected by Waste Management. Refuse is every Wednesday of the month and recycling is every other Wednesday of the month. If you have built a new house and would like to request a recycling bin, please contact Milton City Hall at (608) 868-6900 ext. 5. Established residential properties will have the recycling bin already on site and do not need to call City Hall to request service. Waste Management can be reached by calling the customer service line at 1-877-WM WASTE (1-877-969-2783). Water & Sewer Utilities The City of Milton operates the Water and Sewer Utilities. Bills are mailed monthly. Direct pay is available. Have your utility bill automatically deducted from your checking or savings account. Call the Water Department for more information, 868-6900 ext. 1. You may also pay your monthly utility bill via credit card. Visit www.officialpayments.com for details. If you recently purchased a home in Milton, typically the title company will contact the City to provide all of the necessary billing information. If you moved in to an apartment, you will want to talk to your landlord about who is responsible for contacting the City. Winter Parking Rules / Snow Emergencies Parking during and after snow storms is regulated by City Ordinance 4.05(5) Traffic Code. According to City Ordinance, no person shall park or leave standing any vehicle on any street or municipal parking lot in the City of Milton after a snowfall of 1 ½ inches in depth until after the snow from such street or parking lot has been removed, or plowed to the curb line. |
