YMCA of Northern Rock County Purchases Land in Milton
Press Release November 3, 2008 Contact: Dr. Thomas J. Den Boer, CEO Phone: (608) 201-3888 Email: tdenboer@ymcajanesville.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE YMCA of Northern Rock County Purchases Land in Milton, Wisconsin The YMCA of Northern Rock County is pleased to announce that 5 acres of City land within Crossridge Park in Milton, WI has been purchased for the construction of a new YMCA facility. The closing took place on September 30, 2008. With the land acquisition completed, the YMCA now seeks public input and will begin the process of soliciting funding support for the project. YMCA staff are currently in the process of conducting a “needs assessment” to determine the appropriate scope of the project. Current concept plans include a full-service YMCA facility which could potentially include a comprehensive indoor aquatic center and other typical YMCA amenities. Outdoor facilities are also proposed, such as sporting fields, recreational trails and an extreme playground. The scope and phasing of the possible amenities depend on the results of the needs assessment. Public input is an important part of this process. The YMCA will be coordinating public informational meetings in the upcoming months. According to Board President Dave Riemer, this presents a chance for the public to have a hand in actually shaping the way a new YMCA facility would look and serve the community. “The next few months will present real opportunities for the public in northern Rock County to be a part of this major project,” said Riemer. “I encourage anyone interested to connect-in to the process and actively participate. At this stage, every idea is a good idea, and the YMCA will have the best chance of meeting the public’s needs and wants if they are out on the table earlier rather than later.” More information on this project, along with a detailed concept rendering of the proposed City park and YMCA facility, is available on the City’s website at “www.ci.milton.wi.us/YMCA.aspx”. Milton’s Mayor Nathan Bruce is encouraged by the progress that has been made. “I am excited about this project because citizens and visitors will be able to enjoy the many services and programs that the YMCA offers, while at the same time enjoying traditional features of a City park,” said Mayor Nathan Bruce. “Once complete, this cooperative park development will be a benefit to many for years to come.” Members of the media are invited to a photo opportunity at the development site scheduled for 5:30 PM on Thursday, November 6th, at which representatives from the YMCA and the City will be present.
