City of Milton Staffing and Service Updates:

  • All City facilities will be closed starting March 17.  This includes City Hall, Milton Public Library, Police Department administrative offices, Public Works Department administrative offices, park shelters, and the Community House.  
  1. City Hall staff will only accept voters to come in to register to vote and absentee vote.  More information is available on the City’s website about the election.  
  2. Payments can be placed in the drop box located outside of City Hall or mailed.  You can also make payments online.  
  3. All City meetings have been cancelled until further notice.

Update - March 17, 2020

  • The deadline to purchase dog and cat licenses has been extended to June 1, 2020.  You can purchase a license by mail, over the phone, or by placing payment in drop box at City Hall.  More information is available online

Update - March 18, 2020

  • All facilities remain closed, except for absentee voting and voter registration at City Hall.  However, in order to keep our staff and community members safe, we are STRONGLY encouraging everyone to request an absentee ballot be mailed to them.  More information is available online.  No other business will be conducted at City Hall except absentee voting and voter registration.
  • The library also remains closed to the public, but on March 17 the Library Board approved changing the library hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the closure.  Staff will be available during these hours to answer the phone, check in items, and place items into the book lockers located in the lobby.

Update - March 19, 2020

  • All rentals of City facilities through May 2020 are cancelled, which may be extended depending on guidance and directives from local, state, and federal organizations.  Staff will be in contact with individuals who have rented facilities to discuss rescheduling the event or refunding the fees.  If there are any questions, please contact City Hall at (608) 868-6900.
  • All City sponsored events will be postponed, including the Community Recognition Picnic, Milton’s Arbor Day recognition, and Make a Difference Day.  
  • The dedication ceremony for the Veterans Park Pavilion has been tentatively postponed until around the 4th of July.

Update - March 22, 2020

  • Governor Tony Evers issued Emergency Order #11 on March 22, suspending several utility-related administrative rules.  Read the full press release here.  
  • Immediately following the governor’s emergency order, PSC Chairperson Rebecca Cameron Valcq directed regulated utilities in the state to take the following actions for the duration of the emergency:
    • Stop utility disconnection for nonpayment for all customers, including commercial, industrial, and farm accounts. Previously this applied to residential accounts only;
    • Cease assessing late fees to customer accounts;
    • Halt the practice of requiring deposits from customers for reconnection of service;
    • Allow deferred payment agreements for all customers who request them;
    • Remove any administrative barriers for customers establishing or reestablishing utility service; and
    • Authorize water utilities to provide budget billing arrangements to customers. Electric and natural gas utilities are allowed to do this under current rules.
  • If Milton utility customers are currently signed up for automatic payments (autopay) through the City or PSN and they wish to discontinue those payments based on the information above or for any other reason, they will need to contact the appropriate entity.  If the customer is enrolled through PSN, they should log in to their account to make the change.  If they are enrolled through the City, they should email Utility Billing Clerk Carrie Chesebro at cchesebro@milton-wi.gov.

Update - March 23, 2020

  • Curbside collection of brush and yard waste is suspended until further notice.  The yard waste collection site at the Public Works Facility will be available as previously scheduled.  Please review the rules for the yard waste collection site available online.  Brush is not accepted at the yard waste collection site.

Update - March 24, 2020

  • Governor Evers directed Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to issue a Safer at Home order.  The order is available online, and the press release from Governor Evers office is also available online.  The order is effective at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, and will remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Friday, April 24, or until a superseding order is issued.
  • What the order means for City operations is as follows:
    • City Hall will continue to be open ONLY for absentee voting and voter registration, but voters are encouraged to use MyVote to request an absentee ballot be mailed to them.  Payments can be placed in the drop box located outside of City Hall or mailed.  You can also make payments online.  Documentation you need to provide to the City can also be placed in the drop box.  If you have any questions about the closure or an item you need addressed, please call City Hall at (608) 868-6900.  Staff will still be in the building on a regular basis to facilitate the voting process.
    • The Milton Public Library will be completely closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24.  The book locker service will be suspended as well.  The book drop to return library materials will be closed.  There will be no overdue fees during the closure.  Please utilize the library’s online offerings including Gale Courses, Transparent Languages, Hoopla, Libby (Powered by Overdrive), and more.  Visit the library’s website for more information about their online offerings: www.miltonpubliclibrary.org.  In addition, staff will be connecting virtually with community members through Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and potentially other avenues.  If you have any questions about your library account, please email the Library Director at kunkel.ashlee@als.lib.wi.us.
    • The Police Department lobby will continue to be closed, and office staff will start working from home.  Voicemails left for office staff will be checked on a regular basis.  Police officers will continue to respond to calls for service.  However, in order to both maintain the health of our staff and to prevent potential spread of the virus in the community, officers are going handle as many calls as possible without coming into physical contact with others. Any calls that they can manage by phone, email, or a combination of the two will help to keep all of us healthy.  If you need to contact a police officer, please call the non-emergency number at (608) 757-2244.  Call 911 if there is an emergency, and you need an officer to respond.  
    • The Department of Public Works will continue to perform essential services for the community, including, but not limited to, maintaining the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure.  Staff are working staggered schedules and office staff are working from home as much as possible.
    • All Playgrounds in the City of Milton will be closed in accordance with the order.  Please don’t use the playground equipment at the City’s parks until further notice.  Parks will remain open, and community members may still utilize open spaces for activities and trails.  We ask our community members to maintain social distancing.
    • Refuse and recycling collection will continue as scheduled.  Refuse and recycling collection is considered an essential service.  If there are any changes to the collection schedule, we will notify residents on our website and social media.
